The Global Education and Skills Forum brings together the insights from global education researchers. In the Learning Sciences @GESF track (with lead partner Jacobs Foundation) break-through researchers will outline findings on the science of teaching and learning.
As we seek to find out what (and who) is really making the difference to the study of learning, the Global Education and Skills Forum recognises it takes years of instruction and practice for a child to become a skilled and fluent reader.
Children have to learn how letters, sounds, and meaning relate to one another, and the bulk of this process happens during the primary school years, between the ages of six and ten. This is challenging in one language, so how does a young bilingual child accomplish the task of learning to read in two languages?
