Atlantis, The Palm is the sponsor of the GESF for the third year and we are honored to be part of this important event which discusses and ultimately shapes education globally. This year’s topic ‘How to we prepare young people for the world of 2030 and beyond?’ needs to be of interest to everyone. What will be the common knowledge base for education in the future? How does this knowledge relate to core values such as participation, sustainability, responsibility and creativity? Are there skills that are required in order to survive in the 21st century?
There is increasing agreement that the so-called soft skills such as creativity, curiosity, entrepreneurship and innovation have a crucial part to play in developing the society of the future. The society of the future is increasingly super-diverse, with its varied experiences, cultural differences and multilingualism. Take Dubai as an example, it is a cultural melting pot with over 200 nationalities living and working here. Nearly every child growing up in this city speaks at least three languages and is used to interacting with children and adults of different cultures.
In addition to learning to be a global citizen, creativity, curiosity, entrepreneurship and innovation are synonyms for what was driving Dubai over the past years and these skills are also crucial to our business. Atlantis is known for challenging the existing boundaries, trailblazing and setting new standards. Learning and development is key for a successful resort like ours and we invest heavily in colleague development, starting when they are still at school. We have created internships as well as management trainee programmes to ensure that we educate and develop the future generation of hospitality employees and leaders. The National Strategy for Higher Education 2030 emphasises on the need to provide future generations with technical and practical skills to drive the economy in public as well as private sectors and Atlantis is a strong believer and supporter of this strategy.
